TAKE TIME TO BE HOLY
TEXT: Hebrews 12:14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no
one will see the Lord:
INTRODUCTION:
1. The scriptures are certainly not silent on the subject of Holiness for the
Christian.
a) "Pursue peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man will see the
Lord"
b) " But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
because it
is written, 'Be ye holy for I am holy' " (1Pet.1:15-16).
c) "Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all
filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting hoiness in the fear of God"
(2Cor.7:1).
2. 50 to 60 hours per week at work, 30 to 40 more of other responsibilities and
obligations, wife and children who need your attention, rent, car payment, and
other
bills go right on, need time to socialize and recreate, you're at your wits end
and
temptation comes up that you are not watching for and you give in.
3. The problem is probably that among all the other things that demand your time
and
attention, you have failed to take time to be holy.
4. Ironic that you are a Christian and are told to share the good news with
people and
teach them to be holy yet you are neglecting your own holiness! Happens to
preachers
all the time!
5. The words of the song "Take Time to Be Holy" were written by W.D. Longstaff,
in
1882! 121 years ago, people were having problems taking time to be holy just as
we
are now.
6. It is a mistake to think that things will be better later on, the time
problem is going to
always be there. Since it will always be there we must learn how to manage it in
our
own lives.
I. TAKE TIME TO PRAY:
A. 1Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing
B. Matthew 6:6-8 "But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have
shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father
who
sees in secret will reward you openly. "And when you pray, do not use vain
repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their
many
words. "Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have
need of before you ask Him.
II. TAKE TIME TO WALK IN THE LIGHT: (1JNO.1:7)
III. TAKE TIME TO FEED ON HIS WORD:
A. Psalms 1:1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor
stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his
delight is in
the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like
a
tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season,
whose
leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.
