A NEW YEAR IS:
INTRODUCTION:
- Can you believe that another year has come and gone?
- The older you get the faster they go.
- The passing of a year can be a sad event.
- We remember loved ones who have gone on, children who will never be
"that age" again and we realize that we are another year older.
- While the passing of a year can be sad, the beginning of a New Year can
be a very adventurous, exciting, optimistic time!
- For the child of God, the New Year can be:
- A new opportunity to "love the Lord, your God with all your heart,
soul, mind and strength" (Mark 12:30).
- A new opportunity to "love your neighbor as yourself" (Luke
10:27).
- A new opportunity to "Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His
might and put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand
against the wiles of the devil" (Ephesians 6:10-11).
- A new opportunity to "keep the unity of the Spirit in the
bond of peace"(Ephesians 4:3).
- A new opportunity to "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted,
forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians
4:32).
- A new opportunity to " Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth,
but what is good for necessary edification that it may impart grace to the
hearers" (Ephesians 4:29).
- A new opportunity to "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and
evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice" (Ephesians 4:31).
- A new opportunity to "Do good unto all men, especially those of the
household of faith" (Galatians 6:10).
- A new opportunity to "Visit widows and orphans in their time of need
and keep yourself unspotted from the world" (James 1:27).
- A new opportunity to "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to
every creature" (Mark 16:15-16).
- A new opportunity to "Fear God and keep His commandments"
(Ecclesiastes 12:13).
- A new opportunity to "Seek first the kingdom of God and His
righteousness" (Matthew 6:33).
- A new opportunity to "Obey from the heart that form of doctrine to
which you were delivered" (Romans 6:17).
- A new opportunity to "Forget those things which are behind and
reaching forward to those things which are ahead, press toward the goal for
the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians
3:13-14).
CONCLUSION:
- The year 2008 can be a great year for the church here!
- It is, almost entirely up to us, the members.
- We can make it great or we can make it mediocre.
- Let us pray for greatness.
- Let us all echo the words of the great leader Joshua, "As for me and
my house, we will serve the Lord" (Joshua 24:15).
