The Disciples Charge
I'm a part of the fellowship of the unashamed. The die has been cast. I have
stepped over the line. The decision has been made.
I am a disciple of Jesus.
I won't look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still. My past is
redeemed, my present makes sense, and my future is secure. I am finished and
done with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless
dreams, tame visions, mundane talking, chintzy giving, or dwarfed goals. I no
longer need pre-eminence, prosperity, position, promotions, platitudes, or
popularity. I don't have to be right or first or tops or recognized, praised,
regarded or rewarded. I now live in His presence, I lean on faith, I walk by
patience, I lift by prayer, and I labor by His power.
I am a disciple of Jesus.
My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is Heaven, my road is narrow, my way is
rough, my companions few, my God reliable and my mission clear. I cannot be
bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded, or delayed. I
will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity
or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I won’t give up, shut up, let up until
I’ve stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up and preached up for the cause of
Christ.
I am a disciple of Jesus.
I must go until He comes, give until I drop, preach until all know, and work
until He stops me. And when He comes to take me home, He will have no problem
recognizing me. My colors will be clear!
CALMNESS IN THE MIDST OF CHAOS
“When I heard, my body trembled; My lips quivered at the voice; Rottenness
entered my bones; And I trembled in myself, That I might rest in the day of
trouble. When he comes up to the people, He will invade them with his troops.
Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor
of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut
off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls — Yet I will rejoice in
the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength; He
will make my feet like deer's feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills”
(Habakkuk 3:16).
We live in a time of crisis and chaos. It’s true of the world in which we live
as well as the Lord’s church. Everything that once appeared to be nailed down
seems to be coming loose. Attitudes are changing and stability is under attack.
Sometimes we need to be reminded of a few things we should be doing in times
like these?
I. Live With Assurance (1 John 5:13).
II. Love The Truth (1 John 5:3).
III. Remember Our Mission (Mark 16:15-16; Luke 19:10).
IV. Remember The Power of Prayer (James 5:16).
In the midst of chaos, there is reason for calmness in the life of a Christian.
Let’s use the tools that God has given us, and make a difference.
